Meeting Minutes - May 2, 2000
Alliant Energy Building, Poynette

Present: Steve Mueller, Roxanne Brue, Theresa Plenty, Dick Knutson, Gary Sorenson, Steve Braker, Nancy Braker, Russell Bellman, Jim Bernett, Telle Zoller, Dave Egan

Updates
Roxanne has submitted a grant proposal from the Village of Poynette to the DNR Urban Forestry Grant Program to do trail development to connect Pine Island with Jamison Park. The total cost of the project is $147,000.00; the grant request was for 50% of that with the Village providing the other 50%. The primary cost is for a wooden walkway (14,000 feet long) to cross the wetlands. A contractor would do the work unless less expensive help, such as a Wisconsin Conservation Corps crew was available. The Village will be notified in the fall of the status of the grant.

The tree planting went well. The trees need to be watered once a week. Roxanne will ask the town crew to water. Roxanne will also write an article to submit to the Poynette Press about the tree planting event and will thank participants as appropriate, especially Kim Sopha.

A reminder that at our next meeting we will have a presentation by Ken Potter, UW-Madison, regarding The Rowan Creek Watershed and the potential for it being a study site for his graduate student group.

New Business

DNR Report: Jim Bernett would like to conduct a prescribed burn next fall. He also has concerns about white pine blister rust on Pine Island - there is a need to remove the infested trees. The group asked Jim if he could give a presentation about the management work on the DNR property sometime in the future. We would also like to see a copy of the management or master plan for the property.

Election of Directors and Officers: The following were elected as indicated Nancy Braker: President Steve Mueller: Vice-President Gary Sorenson: Treasurer Theresa Plenty: Secretary Dan Cole Nancy Wachholtz Dave Egan

Regular Meeting Date: We agreed to meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month, at 6:30 p.m.

Publicity: Steve Mueller will work with Roxanne to get information submitted to Channel 8. Theresa will notify the paper of our meetings.

Logo: At our June meeting we will discuss ideas for our logo. Steve Braker agreed to work on the design of the logo, but asked that everyone contribute any ideas that they have.

Brochure: A brochure was discussed and the need for one was agreed upon. The group was asked to bring in examples of brochures for other groups. We need a volunteer to work on this project.

Website: Gary will continue to work on this and would like submissions, especially historical information.

Cultural History Walk: Nancy will ask Lynn Hanson about giving a cultural history walk.

Creek Clean Up: A date was set for a creek clean up of June 3, 9-10 a.m., with a rain date of June 4. Everyone will be invited to stay for a picnic lunch afterwards. Dick Knutson will work on getting a dumpster for that day. Nancy will contact the local scout troop about participating.
